1938年3月12日午前8時、ドイツ軍の進駐が開始された。ドイツ軍は各地で熱狂的な歓迎を受け、そのため進軍速度が鈍ることもあった。首相となったザイス＝インクヴァルトは、続いて名目上の国家元首であるミクラス大統領に対して、ドイツとの合併協定を締結するように迫った。ミクラスはこれを拒絶して辞職したため、ザイス＝インクヴァルトは大統領の権限も代行することになった。

翌日、ザイス＝インクヴァルトはウィーンに迎えたヒトラーの目の前でオーストリアを新たなドイツの州・オーストリア州とする法案「ドイツ国とオーストリア共和国の再統合に関する法律」を起草して署名を行った。 4月10日、ヒトラーとザイス＝インクヴァルトは独墺両国で合邦の是非を問う「国民投票」を行い、99％の合邦賛成票を集めた。これにより、オーストリアはドイツに併合されてオーストリア州となり、ザイス＝インクヴァルトはオストマルク州総督に就任した。

Kampflied der Nationalsozialisten ("Battle Song of the National Socialists"), also known by its opening line Wir Sind Das Heer Vom Hakenkreuz ("We Are the Army of the Hooked-cross"), was an early Nazi hymn. Its lyrics were written by Kleo Pleyer, while the melody was essentially based on that of the traditional German folk song Stimmt an mit hellem hohen klang, which was composed in 1811 by Albert Methfessel.

A equipe da BBC News Brasil visitou Tomé-Açu, no interior do Pará, para contar a história da comunidade japonesa que se instalou naquele pedaço da Amazônia e desenvolveu um método que tem revolucionado a produção agrícola na região.

As primeiras levas de japoneses chegaram em 1929, quando o Japão vivia uma grave crise. As famílias receberam lotes cobertos por floresta, onde construíram casas e cultivaram plantações.

Anos depois, o grupo foi alvo de uma série de restrições do governo brasileiro por causa da Segunda Guerra Mundial, período em que os mais velhos dizem ter vivido numa espécie de "campo de concentração".

Com o fim da guerra, a colônia viveu um ciclo de prosperidade nos anos 1960, até que uma praga arrasou as plantações e forçou os agricultores a buscar alternativas.

Foi então que, observando comunidades ribeirinhas locais e resgatando técnicas ancestrais japonesas, eles desenvolveram um método que privilegia a diversidade de espécies e produz alimentos o ano todo, ajudando a regenerar áreas desmatadas nas últimas décadas.

Hoje as agroflorestas mantidas pelas famílias nipo-brasileiras atraem vários pesquisadores e agricultores interessados em replicá-las em outras partes do Brasil e do mundo.
